Chas & Jill's
MG History |
|
Between 1972 & 1975 I had a 1965 MG
1100 although I held no particular allegiance to the MG badge, I just liked the
car. In 2005 I bought an X Reg MGF Steptronic that was ideal as I have owned
several automatics over the past 25 years and this allowed me the pleasure of an
open top sports car with easy drive of an auto.
Despite experiencing all the usual MGF problems (HGF, water pump, corroded
coolant pipes, 8 visits to various garages, 4 warranty claims plus a
reconditioned gearbox all in the space of 2 years having put only 10k miles on
the clock), driving the car would still put a smile on my face. Am I completely
bonkers or have I just been a dormant MG nutcase? Earlier this year, however, I
decided that rather than throw any more money at the MGF for repairs and
modifications I would go for a TF with all its improvements but this time a bit
newer and with a much lower mileage. |

The car |

The car is an MGTF 1.8i Stepspeed in
pearlescent British Racing Green with Cream leather upholstery, purchased at the
end of March 2007 with just 3,500 miles on the clock. Not done much so far in
the way of mods other than fitting a windstop, door pockets, sound absorption
pads in the doors, boot and rear side panels. The first major modification that
I intend to do is to replace the shock absorbers with the VHS/Bilstein comfort
pack so that hopefully the ride will be nearer that of my previous ‘F’. After
that, front fogs (the TF doesn’t look quite right without them) and maybe some
roll hoops. |
