The SmS Christmas Party - 13th December, 2008
Holiday Inn, Central Milton Keynes

The only question was: Casual smart or Upmarket smart, IE Dinner suits?

In the end it was a mixture, ladies in dresses, men in either DJ’S or cool attire. By popular opinion, we all looked a million dollars. The evening definitely held promise. Some times a party turns out perfectly and the SmS Christmas celebration was just one such event.

Milton Keynes is a new city unlike any other in England and when the sun shines on its white stone road chips and grid street pattern it looks more like California than ’ A green and pleasant land’. The chosen venue for this year was the Holiday Inn Milton Keynes and it turned out to be a very good choice. At various times during the afternoon club members arrived at the hotel and those staying over night booked in. The rooms are well appointed and arranged around a floor to ceiling Antrim, this cosy but sophisticated space holds the bar where we all met for cocktails before entering the restaurant for dinner.

As you would expect there was suitable table decorations of the subdued flashing light variety and the service was attentive and efficient the food of high quality and varied choice. We ate, we talked, we drank a little then listened to a short presentation from Richard and Stewart for the couple of new awards given to SmS members this year.

The second part of the night was dance floor disco orientated and a good mixture of pop and rock saw gyrations getting more wild by the hour.

Surprise of the night  was the appearance of two long legged girls with ten gallon straw hats askew and gun belts and holsters low slung around hips. They held not six guns but shot glasses where bullets would reside and two Tequila  bottles where six guns would sit. They dispensed their fatal shots to any who would imbibe. A couple of hours later and most revellers slipped back into the bar for a night cap or two and some intimate conversation.

Breakfast was included for guests. It was a very pleasant way to finish the SMS end of year Christmas party.

Yes, a night to remember.
