This was the first
'Wheels in Winslow' event, as part of the Winslow annual show.
Southmids Sportsters had received an invite to attend and as it was
forecast for good weather - on a bank holiday too - we decided to
venture over for a day out.
The motoring part of
the show was sponsored by the regional Morgan Owners' Club which was
evident by the number of their cars lined up in front of our
allocated space. But there were many more interesting vehicles that
turned up too. At one point, we had a bright red Ferrari parked to
one side of us, a Triumph Herald to the other and a beautiful Rolls
Royce behind, which happened to be owned by and ex works colleague
of Nick's. That meant we were privileged to try out the interior for
size. It was, as expected of a car of this grandeur, rather
comfortable but I was rather surprised to learn that those who
travelled in this car preferred lush cloth upholstery to leather.
The main show
featured horse trials, dog shows and various other activities
expected of a small country show. There were a few tractors on
display just up from us and even they were polished up for the day.
There were a variety of craft stalls and the usual catering outlets,
so we just had to sample them. Burgers and hot dogs all round - a
typical unhealthy diet at this kind of event but enjoyed
nonetheless!
Although the day had
started quite cloudy and threatening rain, the skies turned bright
blue all of a sudden and the strong sun brought up the temperatures
rapidly. Hands up all those who burnt their heads on the drive
home...
A very enjoyable
event and one we'll probably return to next year as it grows. Now
it's just the wait to see if I won a Morgan in the grand prize draw!
